A week later, she was ordering drive-through in her bed sheets, nursing a snake-shaped rash wrapped around her legs. An ER visit confirmed that the rash was caused by urushiol oil, likely transferred from one of the dogs' leashes.
The rash lasted for weeks, and the experience was behavior-changing. The piles of nylon/rope and polyester leashes were discarded; she no longer let her dogs drag their leashes behind them, and she became reliant on a single glow-in-the-dark plastic leash, which was flimsy and frustrating to keep track of. It was the only leash that felt safe enough to use.
